Elizabeth Paton
Executive Officer
Elizabeth (Libby) Paton (BSc, BA, MAICD) is the Executive Officer for the Australia and New Zealand Melanoma Trials Group ( She has successfully secured $AU12+ million in competitive research funding from Australian and international sources, since commencing in the role.  Reporting to the Chairman of ANZMTG, she is responsible for the growing (8+) team and oversees the research portfolio. ANZMTG has grown from 25 to 1,100+ members representing 30+ countries. The research portfolio consists of 25+ phase II and III randomised controlled trials with more than 2,600+ recruited patients from 100+ leading melanoma units internationally.

Libby graduated from the University of Sydney, with a Bachelor Degree in Science (Biostatistics and Psychology) and Arts (German literature and Fine Arts) in 2002. Libby commenced employment in the pharmaceutical industry specialising in oncology research with Merck Serono in Sydney, Australia; MDS Pharma, Singapore and Novartis Pty Ltd in Berlin with Premier Research based in Darmstadt, Germany. She has also completed executive management qualifications with the Australian Institute of Company Directors, and the Australian School of Applied Management.

Libby pursues research excellence in all aspects of her role to ensure the delivery of clinically relevant trials which will directly improve and impact the treatment of patients diagnosed with melanoma. She is delighted to work with ANZMTG to develop evidence that changes clinical care and feels privileged to work alongside world-leading oncologists, allied health staff and researchers to develop world-class research which addresses clinical questions that any one single institution would be able to complete. In case you have any suggestions or questions please do not hesitate to contact Libby - she is always keen to hear from current and new members.

Katrina Diamante
Project Officer

Katrina Diamante graduated from The University of Sydney with a Bachelor of Medical Science (Immunology and Physiology) in 2015, and a Master of Science in Medicine (Infection and Immunity) in 2016. New to the world of clinical trials, Katrina's interests lie in the areas of immunology and cancer physiology and she is very excited to be working in this field.

Katrina is responsible for the project and data management activities of the ABC Trial, in addition to supporting the development of new ANZMTG protocols.   

Alex Economides
Project Officer

Alex Economides was born and raised on Sydney’s Northern Beaches. Studying a Bachelors of Medical Science at the University of Technology, Sydney Alex has a keen interest in the dynamic and rapidly evolving fields of medical research, specifically Clinical Trials. This is Alex’s first time working in Clinical Trials and he is motivated to learn and grow with the group. He also enjoys writing in the third person, coffee and sarcasm.

Alex is responsible for the project management activities for the EAGLE FM, RADICAL and MelMarT trials, as well as new and exciting projects for 2017.

Narelle Williams
Project Officer

Narelle Williams (RN, MPH, GradDipNurs (Surg), BAppSc (Nurs)) studied nursing through University of Sydney and worked for many years as a registered nurse in Surgical, High Dependency and Intensive Care. Her interest in research began in 2006 when she commenced as a Clinical Trial Coordinator at the Centre for Kidney Research at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead on investigator-initiated clinical trials and qualitative research. She completed a Master of Public Health in 2010.

Narelle commenced at ANZMTG in late 2016 and is currently responsible for managing a portfolio of melanoma clinical trials including WBRTMel, RTN2 and CombiRT and supporting the development of new trials in the ANZMTG portfolio. Narelle’s current role at ANZMTG involves collaboration and communication with all site teams and she enjoys managing these large multi-site, multi-national clinical trials and being involved in dynamic research that will improve the treatment and care of patients with melanoma. Narelle is also actively involved as a volunteer for sporting and other groups within her local community.

Vikki Steel
Clinical Data Project Officer
Vikki has worked within clinical trials for the past 9 years, with the majority of that time spent as a Clinical Data Manager. Her experience spans across Phase I-III studies in relation to lung, gynae, breast and haematological cancers. Since joining ANZMTG in 2012, Vikki has contributed to the setup and running of a number of melanoma trials and enjoys the variety in her day to day work that comes with working in such a dynamic field.

Hayley Mackenzie
Administrative Assistant
Hayley Mackenzie is a born and bred Kiwi with a background in Research Administration and Finance. For the past six years, she has worked at the Institute of Neurology, University College London, looking after a department of 200 staff and students researching Motor Neuroscience and Movement Disorders. She now has made Sydney her home and is looking forward to expanding her knowledge and learning all about the clinical trials at ANZMTG.

Evan Buck
Clinical Data Manager
Evan Buck grew up in California, but fell in love with Australia on a working holiday and has called Sydney home since 2015. He graduated from the California Polytechnic State University in 2013 with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry with a focus in immunology research, as well as a minor in Spanish Language and Literature. Evan has experience in immune modulation research and  cancer treatment market research, and although new to clinical trials, Evan is eager to learn and contribute all he can to the group.
Evan is responsible for the data management activities for the EAGLE FMRADICAL and MelMarT trials.
