Outcome Variable

How many outcome variables are you interested in for your study?

The outcome variable (also called dependent variable) represents the output. The outcome is the presumed effect in a study, contrary to the predictor (or independent variable), which is the presumed cause.

For example, in a microarray study if you measure the expression levels of genes for samples separated into three groups depending on a treatment dose, the outcome variable will be the expression level of a gene, and the predictor varaible will be the group in which each sample belongs.
